September 2015 - Farmington Hills City Council approves special assessment for 53 miles of road, starting with Briar Hills, Independence Commons and Hollywood/Westhill/Tarabusi. Nearly 100 residents from Independence Commons attended the council meeting, with almost universal opposition to the project.
April 2016 - The FH City Council chose Fonson Company for the work, but postponed the awarding of the contract to allow the city of assess their liability given the large number of residents appealing to the Michigan Tax Tribunal. Additionally, the council decided to go with concrete over asphalt during this session.
August 2016 - Farmington Hills is asking the Oakland Circuit Court to validate their city charter, in which they are allowed to pay for no more than 20% of roadwork. This potentially conflicts with Dixon Road Group vs. City of Novi which ruled special assessments must add equivalent value to the property. Additionally, they seek to bar residents from challenging their assessment as not "fair and reasonable". The Circuit Court decision is due out during the first week of September.
